Strong rip currents caught a father and a son off guard over the Memorial Day weekend. Jeremy Crandall got them safely to shore but he didn't make it back alive.
His family and community said goodbyes to the hero Friday night at a memorial service in Jacksonville.
While many people just found out how important this man was to our local community, those who gathered for his service say they are not surprised by the sacrifice he made to save someone he's never met.
Most of Jerry's family is from Michigan, and they were not able to make it to Friday's memorial service. His brother says they are sticking together and trying to make it through this tough time, but its just going to take some time.
Crandall has two little girls, Lillian and Haven. A memorial fund is set up for them. You can donate to the "Jeremy Lee Crandall Fund" at First Citizens bank or at any Walmart store.

Num dia em que as correntes estavam com muita força, Crandall deparou-se com duas pessoas, um pai e um filho, que estavam com grandes dificuldades em lidar com as condições. Perante a situação, o surfista deu a sua prancha às duas pessoas para que estas pudessem usá-la como bóia de salvamento e chegarem à areia.
Todavia, o próprio Crandall, perante a força das correntes, não conseguiu salvar-se e acabou por morrer afogado, deixando a esposa e dois filhos.
A comunidade local e a família do falecido não ficaram surpreendidos com a atitude do surfista, afirmando que ajudar ou outros eram um dos seus inabaláveis princípios, dentro ou fora de água.

A nova sala de shape começa a ganhar vida, depois de montar as paredes laterais com o sistema de iluminação, comecei a preparar o sistema de remoção de pó e aparas. Há uns tempos tinha comprado um aspirador de cinzas, ao qual cortei o fundo...
The new shaping bay is starting to gain life, after mounting the ilumination system and lateral walls, i started preparing the dust and chip collecting system. I had bought an ash vacuum sometime ago, cut out the bottom...

Passatempo Blackdog/Cabovisão
Durante o mês de Abril vai decorrer um passatempo resultante duma parceria da Cabovisão com a Blackdog e o prémio será a 7'0 Torpedo evolution descrita na mensagem abaixo.

Blackdog Torpedo evolution 7'0
Este modelo é a Torpedo evolution, é uma 7'0 e as medidas são as seguintes 16" - 20"3/4 - 15"3/4 - 2"1/2. Tem um fundo concavo que se torna duplo concavo na zona das quilhas, tem wings laterais que reduzem a largura do outline na zona do tail (round). As quilhas são "Lockbox"
e são as LBX4, são ajustáveis e podem ser trocadas por outros modelos com características diferentes. A laminação foi feita com tecido de fibra de vidro de 6oz (6oz+6oz deck + 6oz bottom, com reforço de 4oz na zona das quilhas) e resina de poliester pigmentada.
É uma prancha ideal para aprendizagem mas com versatilidade para surfistas com experiência.

This model is the Torpedo evolution, it´s a 7'0 and her measurements are 16" - 20"3/4 - 15"3/4 - 2"1/2.
The bottom is single to double concave in the fins area, the wings reduce the outline width in the tail area (round). Fins are Lockbox Lbx4 adjustable and switchable for other models with different caracteristics. The glassing was made with 6oz cloth (6oz+6oz deck + 6oz bottom with reinforcement patch of 4oz in the fins area) and poliester pigmented resin.
It´s a versatile board for learning or for experienced surfers.

Blackdog 7'0 Torpedo evolution
Modelo ideal para quem quer aprender ou está fora de forma e quer apanhar mais ondas.
A Torpedo evolution tem full boxy rails, dome deck ligeiro e um fundo semelhante a uma shortboard actual, single concave mais acentuado na zona do pé da frente que evolui para double concave na zona das quilhas e tail.
As quilhas são Lockbox.
Mais adiante colocarei as medidas.
Ideal model for someone who wants to start surfing or for the surfer out of shape who wants to catch more waves.
The Torpedo evolution has full boxy rails, dome deck and a bottom similar to the usual shortboard, single concave intensified in the front foot zone, double concave in the fins and tail area.
Fins are Lockbox.
In the future i´ll post measurements.

Hoje em dia é comum lermos ou ouvirmos dizer que "vivemos na melhor época para se ser surfista". Na minha opinião desde que o surf existe, desde o dia em que o ser humano começou a aproveitar a energia das ondas para se divertir todas as épocas tiveram as suas vantagens, os seus encantos.
Hoje em dia o surf é também uma industria e um mercado que movimenta muito dinheiro a nível global, o surfista tem ao seu dispôr vários tipos de pranchas, fatos e outros utensílios, a moda dita que se deve variar, usar shapes alternativos em nome da evolução, já não há discriminação em relação ao que cada um usa e isso vê-se nas praias e nos line ups.
Penso que vivemos a época mais liberal e democrática no universo das pranchas, e eu, estou a gostar...
Nowadays it´s common to read or hear people saying "there´s no better time to be a surfer than today". In my opinion since surfing exists, since the day a human being started to use the energy of a wave for fun, all the eras had their advantages, their enchants.
Nowadays surfing is an industry and a market that generates a lot of money worldwide, a surfer has a lot of board types, wetsuits and other apparel to choose from, fashion dictates that one must use alternative shapes on behalf of evolution, there´s no longer discrimination towards wich board each one uses and you can see that in the line ups and beaches.
I think that we live in the most liberal and democratic era in the surfboard universe, and i, i´m enjoying...

Pranchas alternativas - Alternative boards
Por vezes uma prancha com um shape "alternativo", fora do comum deixa-nos mais em sintonia com as ondas. Cada surfista deve procurar o tipo de prancha que mais lhe permita evoluir e disfrutar das sensações de fluir com uma onda. As thrusters convencionais são as pranchas mais comuns e muitos de nós caiem no erro de querer surfar com uma prancha "normal", igual às dos pros e por isso o seu surf não evolui e não se sentem realizados com a surfada.
Sometimes an alternative shaped surfboard , uncommon, gets us more in sync with the waves. Each surfer must search for the type of board that will allow him to evolve and enjoy the sensations of flowing with a wave. The convencional thrusters are the most common surfboards and most of us fall in the mistake of wanting to surf with a "normal" surfboard, like the ones the pros are using and that´s why they´re surf does not evolve and they don´t feel stoked with they´re surfing.
